TORRANCE, CA – March 21, 2025 – Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC), in collaboration with the Torrance Airport Association (TAA) and Torrance Unified School District (TUSD), will host the 7th annual STEM Day on March 21, 2025, at Robinson Helicopter. This year’s event will welcome nearly 200 middle and high school students across TUSD, a testament to the growing interest in STEM education within the community. STEM Day will feature immersive, hands-on learning experiences designed to increase interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and ultimately careers in aviation here in the city of Torrance
“While our helicopters fly all over the world, our roots remain in Torrance,” said David Smith, president and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company. “Robinson Helicopter Company is committed to Torrance and growing here, and we believe STEM education is critical to aviation and helping local students understand there are jobs right here at home.”
The day’s agenda will include:
“The TAA is dedicated to being a resource for our community, and hosting STEM Day is a cornerstone of our commitment to student development,” said Anne Minder of the Torrance Airport Association. “We believe that the most effective way to spark a passion for aviation and STEM is to provide students with authentic, hands-on experiences, and this event's success is a direct result of our dedication to delivering those real-world applications.”
Every Robinson helicopter is designed and assembled in Torrance. The new R66 NxG product line is named after surrounding neighborhoods: the Southwood, the Palo Verde, and the Riviera, bringing a piece of Torrance to the world.
“This unique touch honors our hometown and allows our employees and neighbors to share a piece of Torrance with every R66 NxG that flies around the globe,” adds Smith.
The airport plays a vital role in the community, providing jobs and resources for the next generation of STEM leaders, from manufacturing to engineering and piloting aircraft. Local students will have the unique opportunity to engage with industry professionals through dynamic workshops led by TAA pilots, Robinson Helicopter engineers and staff, and Ascent AeroSystems, a drone company acquired by Robinson Helicopter in 2024.
