The Rolls Royce RR300 turbine engine is a modern, lightweight turboshaft engine designed primarily for use in light helicopters. The Rolls Royce RR300 turbine engine combines advanced technology, proven design principles, and a focus on reliability and efficiency, making it a popular choice for light helicopter applications.

A hardpoint is a location on the R66’s belly designed to carry an external load.

To facilitate reaching the main rotor hub, steps are built into the three cowl doors on the left side of the cabin.

Used for engine starting and 160 AMP electrical power generation.  A single push of the start button latches the starter on until 58% N1.

The EMU is a digital recording device that continuously monitors and records N1, N2, engine torque and MGT. EMU status can be checked by pressing the Test Button on the annunciator panel.

User selectable system that allows hot compressor discharge air to flow thru the front compressor support to keep ice from forming.

A nozzle that is built into the engine filter housing to make engine gas path washes and rinses easier to accomplish.

The TB17 battery weighs 16 lb, which is significantly lighter than the R66’s standard battery (52 lb). Lithium-ion chemistry holds a higher charge voltage and provides a more constant discharge rate than lead-acid, delivering consistent, more reliable turbine starts. The battery’s internal heater enhances functionality in cold temperatures as low as -40°C.

The R66 features an Annunciator Panel located at the top of the instrument panel and consists of illuminated segments. If a caution or warning condition occurs, the appropriate segment illuminates to indicate the nature of the problem. A test button is located to the right of the annunciator panel that allows the pilot to test the panel prior to flight.

The RPM Governor monitors the engine's RPM and makes adjustments to keep the engine's RPM constant.

The 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) video camera records video, intercom audio, radio communications, and GPS position to a removable 128 GB USB flash drive. Recording starts automatically when the helicopter is turned on and stops when it is turned off.  Recording video and/or audio to the flash drive can be independently controlled with separate switches.

The Aft Center Console replaces the center rear seat and provides secure storage.

The R66 helicopter is equipped with adjustable tail rotor pedals on the pilot's side, allowing the pilot to adjust the pedal position for comfort and optimal control. Adjusting the pedals is easy with a quick-release pin on each side of the pedal, allowing the pedal to be moved to the desired position.

Panel, Task, and Overhead Lighting provide illumination for instruments and consulting navigation charts, and flight aids. They also provide lighting for the rear seating area.

The R66 features LED Anti-Collision and Navigation Lights to improve the visibility of the helicopter in the air and on the ground.

The Garmin GFC 600H autopilot integrates seamlessly with Garmin flight displays and offers features like altitude hold, heading select, navigation, and approach modes to increase both ease of operation and safety. Additional safety functions include low-G and low-altitude protection, limit cueing, and hover assist. The system reduces pilot workload with features like airspeed stabilization and optional yaw axis control.

The simple, lightweight system provides air-conditioned comfort and reduced humidity throughout the four-seat cabin. An overhead console provides vents for each seat with 250 CFM total airflow. The 42 lb air conditioner uses the latest automotive refrigerant and has 17,000 BTU/hr cooling capacity. The system is controlled by a toggle switch with low and high fan settings and uses approximately three horsepower during operation. The evaporator and fan are mounted under the aft center seat, preserving all four under-seat baggage compartments. The compressor engages when the fan is switched on and automatically disengages during autorotation entry to maximize glide performance.

The Hydraulically Boosted Controls on the R66 assist the pilot in controlling the helicopter's flight surfaces via the cyclic and collective.

The R66 features a Crashworthy Fuel System with a Bladder Tank designed to prevent fuel leakage and reduce the risk of fire in the event of a crash. The system incorporates several features and design elements to enhance safety for both the helicopter and its occupants. The R66's fuel tank is constructed of an aluminum enclosure containing a flexible, puncture- and tear-resistant bladder that can withstand significant impact without rupturing. Additionally, the fuel system includes flexible joints or self-sealing breakaway couplings that absorb energy and prevent breakage. These are designed to disconnect safely and seal off the fuel line if excessive force is applied, preventing fuel spillage.

Impact-resistant windshields for R66 helicopters provide protection from bird strikes. Impact-resistant windshields are constructed of tough, energy-absorbing polycarbonate (standard windshields are made of acrylic) and installed with distinctive retention hardware. A special hard coating provides protection from scratching and weather degradation. Tests demonstrate the R66 windshields provide protection for an impact with 2.2 lb (1 kg) bird at speeds up to 100 knots. Note: Polycarbonate windshields, as compared to standard acrylic windshields, will have more minor surface or optical imperfections.

The Cabin Heater and Defogger outlets are located near the floor on both sides of the instrument panel forward of the tail rotor pedals. Warm air is bled off the engine compressor and routed through tubes to the forward outlets and to the rear footwells. A heater control knob is located to the left of the cyclic stick.

Robinson's center-positioned cyclic makes it easy to enter and exit the cockpit. It’s very effective for dual instruction, as well as sharing piloting duties.

The fuel flow meter provides real-time fuel flow data to the GTN which in turn displays the fuel consumption rate along with fuel range rings on a moving map. Fuel used, fuel remaining, fuel to destination, and other real- time information is also available on accessory pages.

A 28-volt SAEAS35061-style receptacle is provided for external power. The receptacle is located in the cabin outboard of the pilot’s seat.

The all-glass cockpit features Garmin’s advanced digital displays (GDU 700P/1060) and is designed to enhance situational awareness and ease pilot workload. Engine and system data are fully integrated into the Garmin TXi flight display, delivering streamlined access to critical information through a modern, intuitive interface.

The helicopter’s Rotor Brake allows the pilot to stop the rotor quickly, reducing shutdown time and risk of injury to ground personnel and passengers.

The Low Rotor RPM Light and Horn indicate rotor RPM is below safe limits.

The R66 features a High Rotor RPM Audio Alert that emits a warble tone in the headsets.

This alert is equivalent to the First Limit Indicator found in some larger turbine helicopters. It warns the pilot when nearing operating limit without the need to continuously monitor multiple engine instruments.

Under-Seat Storage Compartments under each seat allows for stowing soft carry-on bags, briefcases, and personal belongings.

The Pressure Refueling System allows rapid refueling with or without the engine running or opening the cowl door to access the main fuel cap. The pressure refueling option is intended for users requiring fast on-ground turnarounds. A control panel located adjacent to the main instrument panel allows the pilot to select fuel quantity. The system incorporates automatic shutoffs to prevent overfill or over pressure and an audio alert warns the pilot if the fuel hose is still connected at takeoff.

The Heated Pitot Tube replaces the standard pitot tube and is used in cold environments when conditions conducive to pitot ice exist.

Seat bottoms and backrests for the forward seats and outboard rear seats are heated. Switches to control low and high heat settings are located on the panel above the right-side collective boot. The seats operate only when the generator switch is in the ON position to reduce the likelihood of inadvertently draining the battery before the engine is started.

The optional IBF provides added protection for engines operating in dusty environments. The IBF mounts to the same inlet screen as a standard filter, uses the same filter bypass systems and cockpit indications as a standard filter, and imposes no performance penalties making its installation transparent to the pilot. Service intervals for the IBF are 300 hours or annually, and the installation includes a pre-flight sight gauge to provide an early indication that the filter is becoming dirty.

The R66 helicopter offers two optional auxiliary fuel tanks: a small 23.2-gallon (88-liter) tank that adds approximately one hour of endurance and extends the range by up to 100 nautical miles (115 statute miles), and a larger 43.5-gallon (165-liter) tank that adds about two hours of endurance and extends the range by up to 200 nautical miles (230 statute miles). Only one tank can be installed at a time. Each tank mounts on a fiberglass tray in the baggage compartment, and both the tank and tray can be easily removed when not needed.

Both tanks include crash-resistant fuel bladders that fit in an aluminum and fiberglass enclosure with an internal fuel pump that transfers fuel to the helicopter’s main tank at approximately 40 gallons per hour. Aux Tank Controls are conveniently located in the upper instrument console.

Extra Corrosion Protect is the application of additional primers, paints, and sealants to various parts of the aircraft to protect against corrosion in marine environments.

The five-point harness consists of five straps mounted to the airframe. Two are located at the shoulders, two at the hips, and one at the crotch that connect to a central buckle release mechanism.
