The Robinson Helicopter Company's Pilot Safety Course is dedicated to elevating pilot safety awareness through comprehensive education and training. Tailored for R22, R44, and R66 helicopters, this course emphasizes adherence to aircraft guidelines and aviation standards. While not a transition course for a specific make or model, the curriculum is designed to deepen pilots' aeronautical decision-making abilities by addressing safety-related topics such as accident causes, prevention techniques, emergency procedures, and FAA regulations. The curriculum also explores human factors, ensuring comprehensive training to enhance overall flight safety.

Participants will delve into key areas such as identifying major causes of helicopter accidents, understanding their origins, and learning effective prevention strategies. The course covers essential sections of the Pilot's Operating Handbook, including limitations, emergency procedures, performance guidelines, and relevant FAA regulations. Throughout, special attention is given to human factors, ensuring a comprehensive approach to safety throughout the training program.

Who Should Attend

The Pilot Safety Course, available to all rated pilots with a minimum of 3 hours logged in the chosen Robinson helicopter model. A basic understanding of the model is essential to fully benefit from the safety training led by the RHC flight instructor.

Note: Student pilots are welcome to enroll but must obtain their helicopter rating before attending the course.

The course is conducted in English, and fluency is mandatory. If your English proficiency is deem insufficient, you will not be permitted to fly, and no certificate will be issued. 

Course Duration and Curriculum

The RHC Pilot Safety Course includes 4 days of classroom instruction and, approximately, 1 hour of flight time with an experienced RHC flight instructor in either an R22, R44, or R66. No additional flight time is provided.

All attendees must arrive by 7:45 a.m. each day, as classes start promptly at 8:00 a.m. To receive a certificate of completion, you must attend the entire course. Classes end around 4:30 p.m. daily, except on flight day. The first enrollees will fly on Day 3, with the remaining students scheduled for Day 4. Check your confirmation letter for your assigned flight day.

The Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) and SFAR endorsements are not offered.

A continental breakfast is served. Lunch is provided the first two course days. Special dietary requests should be made several days in advance.

What to Bring

  • Headset (required on flight day only)
  • Logbook (required on flight day only)
  • R22, R44 or R66 POH (recommended but not mandatory)
  • Writing Instrument
  • Paper

How to Enroll

To secure your place, please complete and submit the application along with the tuition fee, copies of your pilot certificate (front and back, showing helicopter rating), flight instructor certificate (front and back, showing helicopter rating), and government-issued identification.

The course is typically sold-out several months ahead of the scheduled course dates. If your preferred date is not available, you'll be scheduled for an alternative date. Formal confirmation will be sent via email. If you haven't received confirmation with a week, please contact the Course Administrator at courses@robinsonheli.com to verify receipt. Refrain from making travel arrangements until you receive a formal confirmation. Course dates are subject to cancellation if sufficient registrations are not attained.

Tuition

The cost of the course depends on the model of helicopter you choose to fly.

R22 = $1100 U.S.

R44 = $1,750 U.S.

R66 = $1,900 U.S.

Cancellation Policy

Reservations and tuition are non-transferable. To reschedule, notify RHC at least two weeks before your course date to avoid an additional 50% tuition fee and to select a new class date. Cancellations made at least two weeks before your scheduled course date are eligible for a 90% refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than two weeks before the scheduled date, and no-shows forfeit their entire tuition.
